The International Baccalaureate® (IB) is a model for the future that develops students' key competencies for academic, professional and personal success, enabling them to achieve their goals in an international context. Agora Granada College International is an authorised centre for the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) and for the Primary Years Programme (PYP) at Primary stage. As an IB World School, it is an investigative, reflective, active and creative centre in a constant process of improvement which aims to educate students who are committed to their future and the world around them.At Agora Granada College, as at Agora Príncipes Infant School, teaching how to learn to be, teaching how to learn to be, teaching how to learn to think and teaching how to learn to learn are the challenges we set ourselves every day. And we do this by providing pupils with suitable channels for the development of their activity, through programmes of intellectual work techniques adapted to different ages.

In ancient Greece there was a concept called "Areté" which we could translate today as orientation to excellence, i.e. the ability to think, speak and act successfully in order to be an exemplary citizen. In our schools we keep this spirit alive and we do so by educating our students in a holistic way.

Each pupil develops his or her abilities to the maximum by growing in all aspects: sensitivity, affectivity, reasoning, will. We educate the body and the spirit, the senses and the intelligence, the heart and the character; we educate through sport, through music and through science. We educate in excellence. That is why we are working on an academic model for the future focused on bilingual education, sports, technology, multiculturalism, as well as the values and responsibilities that all this entails. In other words, a comprehensive education that prepares our students to be global citizens who can shape the world.

Methodology

The teaching methodology at Agora Granada College International School is an investigative and active approach in which teachers guide each pupil so that they are the true protagonists of their own learning. Pupils participate actively in classes, analyse their surroundings, engage in dialogue based on respect and tolerance with their classmates, work in an experimental, multidisciplinary and collaborative way, and value the culture of effort. The teacher motivates and guides educational development so that students find the answers for themselves, acquiring essential skills such as communication and teamwork and building their own knowledge to help them cope in the real world.

Motivation and Challenge

It is a proven fact that pupils learn better when their work motivates them and it presents an appropriate degree of challenge. That is why our pupils learn how to learn and come across motivating, innovative and experiential methods. Laboratories help them to cultivate the scientific method and the critical spirit, while cultural excursions and sports outings help them to avoid routine and contribute to their overall education.

Personalised Teaching Methods

We believe that our teachers should do a coaching job, combining the available resources so that each student can give the best of themselves. Working with students begins with a study of their abilities, aptitudes and preferences in order to personalise methodologies, using a wide range of teaching techniques to help each student develop: project work, direct instruction, inverted classes and critical thinking, among others.

Collaborative Learning

Teamwork is the basis of collaborative learning, which is why communicative and social interaction is part of our students' daily life as a key element for the full development of their skills. In each work team, students are fully involved and participate actively: all members of the group are responsible for the work to achieve a common goal, acquiring values such as responsibility and empathy.

Critical Thinking

At Agora Granada College International School we want our pupils to "learn how to learn" and to achieve full intellectual autonomy for each one of them. We work on certain skills from an early age to encourage this critical thinking, introducing this vocation from Infant Education. Throughout all stages of education, students learn to investigate, analyse, evaluate and create, developing their own ideas and taking the lead in their learning process.

Evaluation and Feedback for Learning

Student assessment is a continuous process, constantly evolving and improving. This process is based on different sources and evidence ranging from the correction of assignments or classroom observation to conversations with students or the analysis of their work. Thanks to this feedback, our teachers identify the next steps in each student's learning and adapt the teaching-learning process to achieve higher academic achievements.

Technological Innovation

The use of Information and Communication Technologies, present in all areas of society, is one of the pillars of the educational project of our schools. With the creation of the TECNÓPOLIS PROJECT, we have been configuring a school technologically adapted to the needs of our pupils from Infants to Baccalaureate, introducing iPads, digital whiteboards, computers, collaborative and cooperative learning environments, interactive books, etc., all aimed at the service of the education of our pupils.

Psycho Pedagogical Office

Our Educational Psychology Office is a differential service that works with pupils, teachers and parents to deal with the individual needs of each pupil. In this way, we ensure attention to diversity and optimum development of the pupils according to their aptitudes and personal needs, favouring collaboration with their families in order to give continuity to the educational project.

Globeducate Platinum Standard

Globeducate Platinum Standard is a quality standards programme implemented throughout all Globeducate which is designed as an ongoing tool to improve the overall performance of each of our schools. The objective of the programme is to assess the quality of the education provided, and the basic principles of the programme are supported by best practice from education systems from around the world. The programme uses a variety of quality indicators which help to establish improvement plans in areas such as leadership, quality of teaching and learning and the progress and well-being of the students.
