We raise the Ecoschools Green Flag at Agora Granada College
- News
After three years of effort and dedication to the Eco-Schools programme, we are proud to announce that last May Agora Granada College International School was awarded the Green Flag, the distinction which rewards environmental commitment and sustainable educational work.
Yesterday, we held the ceremony to receive and raise the Green Flag, an emotional event in which all the members of the eco-committees were present, as they are at the heart of these ecological projects. In addition, we had the presence of such important figures as the Headmaster of the school, Javier Jiménez, and Vicenç Gandol, Director General of Agora International School. This achievement is the result of the joint work of our entire educational community: pupils, teachers, families and school staff, who have shown a firm commitment to protecting the environment.
Being part of this programme has allowed us to make progress in developing a deep ecological awareness, promoting values such as solidarity, respect for nature and sustainability, fundamental pillars of our education. This recognition not only reflects our daily efforts, but also our vision of forming responsible citizens committed to the future of the planet.
The action plan developed by our Eco Committee, made up of students, teachers and families, focused on three main objectives:
- Raise awareness and educate for sustainability: Through talks, workshops and campaigns led by students, we have worked to foster a culture of respect for the environment inside and outside the classroom.
- Reduce waste and promote recycling: From projects to reuse materials to innovative initiatives such as eco-friendly glitter, our pupils have demonstrated creativity and responsibility in finding solutions to minimise our ecological footprint.
- Transforming the school into a more sustainable space: We have implemented concrete actions ranging from improving waste management to creating an organic garden that not only educates, but also connects students with nature.
As part of our environmental leadership mission, some of these projects have been presented at international forums, showing how our students are not only learning, but inspiring real change in their environment.
This achievement motivates us to continue on this path. We are convinced that educating in environmental values is not just a choice, but a responsibility that our community assumes with enthusiasm and hope.
Thank you all for being part of this great achievement! Together we are building a greener and more sustainable future.
What is Eco-schools
Eco-schools is the ADEAC programme that promotes respect for the environment and sustainability in schools with the greatest global reach. It is born in the classroom and extends to the community, through the involvement of the next generations in action-based learning. With an international network which brings together 59,000 schools from 90 countries around the world, Agora Granada College International School joined this programme 3 years ago, within the Globeducate Agenda, an international group of schools which also includes other events with global projection which inspire students to transform the world, such as the Student Leadership Conference, the WWF Competition, or Ecology Week or WWF's Wear it Wild.
Perhaps the greatest achievement of the programme is that it produces, over time, generations of environmentally conscious and sustainable people. The achievement of the first green flag for Agora Granada College International School is just one more step on the road ahead, as each school must follow a seven-step process of change, which empowers its young people to lead processes and actions wherever possible.
‘Receiving the Green Flag and being recognised as an Eco-School is a reflection of the commitment, effort and passion that for three years we have dedicated to this project. This achievement not only symbolises the changes we have implemented, but also the heart of a larger transformation: the awareness and action of each of our students, teachers and families to build a more sustainable world. We have planted seeds of hope in every corner of our school, and today we see the fruits of that joint work blossoming. This recognition is not just an award; it is a testament to the fact that, when we come together, we can be agents of real change for a better future. Thank you all for making this possible!’. Javier Jiménez - Head of Agora Granada College International School.
